The Municipal Assembly of Bijelo Polje approved housing subsidies for young married couples, allocating 320,000 euros from the municipality’s budget to support first-home purchases and rental costs. Mortgage assistance can cover up to 10% of an approved loan, with a maximum of 10,000 euros per couple.

Under the decisions, grants are available to married couples aged up to 30 for whom the property would be their first home. The mortgage subsidy may be used to buy a residential property or build a home. The municipality will finance the measures from its own budget.

The rental subsidy is capped at 100 euros a month per couple for up to 12 months, giving a maximum payment of 1,200 euros per beneficiary over a full year. The measures apply to young married couples in the municipality.

Haris Malagić, secretary of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje’s Secretariat for Local Self-Government, said the mortgage programme is intended to ease the financial burden of buying a first home and improve housing security for young families. He said the measures are also aimed at encouraging young people to remain and establish families in the municipality, and at reducing barriers to buying or building a first property.
