Berane is emerging as a sought-after destination for both local and international tourists, thanks to its picturesque mountains, outdoor recreational opportunities, and vibrant cultural events. The area has recorded significant growth in visitor numbers, highlighting its potential in the tourism sector.
From January to July 2026, Berane welcomed over 3,000 tourists, resulting in nearly 6,000 overnight stays. This marks an increase of approximately 1,000 arrivals compared to the same timeframe last year, while overnight stays remained relatively steady with a slight upward trend. The municipality’s accommodation facilities were fully booked during the peak summer season.
The region’s surrounding mountains—Bjelasica, Jelovica, Cmiljevica, and Mokra—play a crucial role in attracting visitors. Local tourism authorities emphasize that these natural landscapes present substantial opportunities for recreation and the promotion of rural and mountain tourism.
While most visitors hail from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and North Macedonia, there has been a noticeable rise in interest from countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Israel, Russia, Denmark, and the United Kingdom over the past two years.
The local tourism scene has been further enhanced by concerts, festivals, sports events, and various cultural programs. Additionally, new accommodations are being developed both within the urban area and its outskirts to cater to the growing influx of tourists.
To encourage longer stays among visitors, local officials are focusing on expanding the range of activities and services available. Accommodation prices generally range from €30 to €50 per person per night, with some rural households offering lower rates.
