Montenegro will procure electricity to cover losses in the distribution network during the third and fourth quarters of the year, when more favorable hydrological conditions are anticipated. The Montenegrin Electric Distribution System (CEDIS) is authorized to manage this procurement.
A recent meeting at the Ministry of Energy brought together managers from Elektroprivreda (EPCG) and CEDIS to discuss strategies for preparing for the coming year.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the discussion focused on the potential for procuring electricity to cover distribution network losses, with the decision made to proceed during the latter half of the year due to expected improvements in hydrological and market conditions.
The meeting also addressed the upcoming Energy Law, highlighting the need for modern metering infrastructure. This new infrastructure will support the law’s full implementation and offer benefits to end users.
The statement further explains that the new Energy Law will allow end consumers to participate in balancing the power system and potentially earn income. To enable this, there is a need for advanced metering equipment with enhanced functions and capabilities beyond what current meters provide.
