The municipalities of Plav and Peja are beginning the 30-month PazarPoint project, valued at 613,463.10 euros, to develop sustainable tourism and strengthen the local economy in their cross-border area. The European Union is providing 521,443.64 euros, or 85% of the total, and the Municipality of Plav is the lead partner.
The agreement was signed by Nihad Canović, president of the Municipality of Plav, and Gazmend Muhaxheri, president of the Municipality of Peja. The project plans to improve tourism services among at least 50 existing and new providers.
At least 40 households in Meteh and Rugova are expected to receive support through small investments, training and mentoring. The project also provides for cross-border tourism offices in Plav and Peja and a joint sustainable tourism strategy.
Promotional activities will connect local producers, tourism workers and households. The partners are the municipalities of Plav and Peja, the Women’s Business Association of Montenegro and Promotion of Heritage Management – West Kosovo. Their joint work aims to make better use of natural and cultural heritage and widen opportunities for local tourism stakeholders.
