Hotel Piva, once a landmark of Plužine, was demolished today to prepare for a new hotel on the same site, Plužine Municipality President Slobodan Delić said. Serbian basketball player Bogdan Bogdanović, a member of NBA team Houston Rockets, is the investor, and the owners have begun implementing the project.

Delić said the former hotel had symbolic value, but that a functional hospitality property suited to modern tourism was needed. Plans envisage a hotel with a larger area and a different design from the old building. Its accommodation capacity and other project details are not yet known, he said.

The new hotel is expected to be modern and functional and to “bring new value” to the municipality, according to Delić. The investor’s connection to Plužine is notable, he said, because Bogdanović grew up there. Delić added that the player’s name and reputation could bring visitors to the town.

The former hotel was built in new Plužine and began operating half a century ago. It stopped operating in 2011, and the Bogdanović family bought it in 2019.

Piva Nature Park described the demolition as “a sad day for Plužine” and for people who had memories of the hotel, particularly those who spent their working lives there. The park said the building’s removal meant the loss of part of Plužine’s history, along with memories of earlier times, while also marking the end of one story and the beginning of another.

The park said it believes the new hotel will bring new energy, create opportunities and contribute to tourism development. It described tourism as one of the biggest opportunities for the future of Plužine and the wider Piva area.
