The former hail-rocket factory in Zabjelo, Podgorica, has been largely demolished, leaving two halls on a site planned for a residential and commercial complex. The factory’s distinctive chimney and several production facilities have also been removed.
Rockets produced in Zabjelo once protected skies across the former Yugoslavia, while knowledge and technology were exported from the site. Hailstorms were frequent, but crops and farmers’ work were protected.
Former employees remember the plant as a source of pride and regret that industrial production has largely given way to construction of concrete structures and apartment buildings. They recall a factory that once helped protect crops and supported agricultural work.
