Montenegro’s hotels had around 23,000 visitors on 15 October 2026, about 33% more than on the same date a year earlier, according to unofficial data from local tourism organisations reported by RTCG, Montenegro’s national broadcaster. The rise was described as encouraging for the country’s autumn shoulder season.

About 43,000 tourists were present across all accommodation, up 20% year on year. That total includes hotel visitors, so the figures should not be added together. The largest numbers were reported in Budva, Herceg Novi, Ulcinj and Podgorica.

The figures are a mid-month snapshot, not a measure of October’s monthly occupancy, total arrivals, hotel room-nights or average occupancy. They cannot establish a full-month trend without follow-up data.

Extending the season matters to hotels because property, energy and maintenance costs, management salaries and much of the infrastructure remain in place when rooms are empty. Additional autumn demand can improve operating efficiency if hotels can serve it without disproportionate staffing and heating costs.

Meetings, events, wellness services and direct air connections can help bring in visitors beyond beach holidays. Investors will need to assess whether the increase is spread across more hotels or concentrated in a few properties and destinations. Room rates also matter: growth driven only by deep discounts may raise occupancy without strengthening cash flow.

Demand in November and December will test whether Montenegro can turn its strong summer tourism profile into a more stable annual hospitality business.
