Pljevlja Thermal Power Plant will suspend electricity production on 31 October for scheduled winter maintenance planned for the first half of November, Ivan Starovlah, the plant’s executive director, said. The work is intended to prepare the unit for winter operation, with the aim of running “reliably and stably” during the season.

During the stoppage, engineers will inspect production systems, environmental-reconstruction facilities, ash transport equipment, valves and wastewater installations. They will also repair defects recorded during the preceding period.

Since the start of the year, the plant has supplied the electricity system with more than 1,070,000 megawatt-hours, Starovlah said. He described the amount as “a certain percentage higher” than planned in the balance compared with the previous year. The plant was out of operation for a total of 42 days this year and ran at capacity on the other days, he said.

The plant’s operation and delivery of planned electricity volumes contributed to stability in Montenegro’s energy sector. The company also reported more efficient functioning of its desulphurisation and denitrification systems, which it said had a positive effect on air quality.
